The Creative Media Lab is very happy to share the exciting news that Johnson Chan’s Sea will screen at this year’s edition of the Cannes Film Festival. This screeing in the Cannes SFC | Rendez-vous Industry is a special section organized by another CMLab alumni Yuanye Fang (Frank). This screening and section Cinéma de Demain at Cannes is a great opportunity for recent graduates and promising filmmakers to engage with the larger film world and market.
Johnson Chan’s graduation film at the CMLab Sea has been a standout on the festival circuit awarded both locally and screening in numerous international festivals. It is a great example of the kind of creativity and originality that the Creative Media lab seeks to cultivate. Since graduating Johnson has gone on to graduate studies in film and directing in Taiwan. His recent films have also screened at the Golden Horse Film Festival other premiere international film festivals.
Since graduating from the London Film School Frank has gone on to establish the Sequence Film Lab in Beijing which helps filmmakers execute their visions. Frank also plays an important role in bringing films from China to international audiences and markets like Cannes. It is awesome to see different generations of our alumni supporting and finding their way in the broader film world.
