Congratulations to the student filmmakers that screened in the 2017 edition of the European Union Short Film Challenge. All of the eight films and the teams behind them brought an original interpretation to the theme of “elections.” From futuristic settings to the everyday concerns of students, the filmmakers explored the ways we use various means and media to make choices about how to connect ourselves or not to larger social and political issues.

The jury comprised of José Luís de Sales Marques (President of the Institute of European Studies of Macau (IEEM), Prof. Tony Schirato (Head of the Dept. of Communication), Patrícia Q. Ribeiro (representing “IPOR” Instituto Português do Oriente) and Pedro Lemos (representing TDM) noted the quality and creativity of the filmmaking. In the end it awarded the top prize to two films: Overlunch by Helen Choi, Shi Shi, Ruby Wu, Shirley Tang and Petter Lin and The Net by Frank Fang, Emily Ling, Adrian Lei, Leslie Chan, Danny Chan, Carmen Ng, Mark Wong, Ebly Zhuang, and Javen Lin.

These films will screen at the upcoming edition of DocLisboa in Macao and also be featured on TDM. Look out for all of the entries on the Creative Media Lab youtube page and see below for some photos from the screening on November 30, 2017.
